Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Long Island Beach It wasn’t exactly the runway he was hoping for, but a pilot still managed to land his small plane safely on a Long Island beach. Emergency crews were called at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, after a single-engine Cessna plane made an emergency landing on Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai. Suffolk County Police said the aircraft suffered a power failure mid-flight and the 60-year-old male pilot was forced to put it down on the sand. The plane landed safely and neither the pilot nor his 59-year-old female passenger was injured. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating.

The crash happened at around 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 27, at the Mattituck Airport, according to Southold Town Police. Emergency crews arrived to find the single-engine Cessna plane with front end damage in a grassy area just off the runway. The pilot, identified as Bernard Stepnoski, of Mattituck, was the only person onboard. He was not injured, police said.
