‘Disregard For Rules’ Closes Hawthorne Pool After Bacteria Spike, Officials Say
Hawthorne’s public pool has been shut down after high levels of bacteria were found in both pools, borough officials said.
The closure was announced Wednesday, June 25, and is expected to last through Thursday, June 26, officials said in a notice posted by the Hawthorne Municipal Pool.
“Due to required bacteriological testing requirements and positive test results for high levels of bacteria, the pool will be closed today, Wednesday, June 25 and most likely tomorrow, Thursday, June 26,” the notice says.
Officials blame the spike in bacteria on a pattern of rule-breaking by pool-goers.

A suspicious package prompted evacuations and a large emergency response to a Bergen County neighborhood on Wednesday, Jan. 22, authorities said.

A jury found a former East Orange deli worker guilty for slitting the throat of his former boss and letting him bleed to death on the bathroom floor of the shop, authorities announced.
Roberto Ubiera, 58, of Newark, previously worked as an employee at the the neighborhood grocery store on North Park Street in East Orange that his victim, 55-year-old Tarlok Singh managed, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, said.
Ubiera cuffed Singh's hands behind his back and isolated him in an employee bathroom in the early morning hours of Aug. 16, 2018, Stephens said.

Police in North Carolina arrested a man they say is responsible for the road rage shooting death of Pennsylvania mom of six Julie Eberly, 47.Dejywan R. Floyd, 29, of Lumberton, NC, was nabbed at the Parkview Apartments in Lumberton, NC, on Thursday around 12:40 a.m., according to the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.
Floyd was charged with first Degree Murder and Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Property for the March 25, killing of Eberly near Exit 22 on Interstate 95 North of Lumberton.

Residents Help Haledon Police Capture Car Burglar
Haledon police captured a former Paterson tattoo artist after home surveillance video caught images of him breaking into a car, authorities said.
Officers Edar Merza and Jeffrey Welsh, responding to the 4:40 a.m. call, spoke with neighbors and reviewed video of the burglar “entering and rummaging through an unlocked vehicle” parked in a driveway near the corner of Haledon Court and Oxford Street, Lt. George Guzman said.
