A former town highway superintendent who shot a lost delivery driver outside his Orange County home will spend years in prison, prosecutors announced.
John Reilly III, 49, of Chester, was sentenced Monday, May 18, in Orange County Court to 17 years behind bars followed by five years of post-release supervision, according to Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.
The conviction stems from the May 2, 2025, shooting of delivery driver Alpha Oumar Barry outside Reilly’s Valerie Drive home in the Town of Chester, as previously reported by Daily Voice.

'Runaway' Amazon Vehicle Backs Into Residence In Katonah, Causes Damage: Police
A Northern Westchester home was damaged after an Amazon delivery driver accidentally backed into it, police said.
The incident happened on Thursday morning, Dec. 19, when the delivery driver accidentally left their vehicle in reverse while exiting it at a residence on Pine Hill Drive in Katonah, according to Bedford Police Lieutenant Jeff Gulick.
According to Gulick, the driver thought they left the vehicle in park. The "runaway" vehicle then went through a few yards, damaged a fence, and hit the home, he added.

Arrest Made In Crash That Killed Navy Vet From Vineland, Allen Miller Jr., 45
A 23-year-old man has been charged in a crash that killed a U.S. Navy veteran last month in Salem County, authorities said.
Christopher Poore, of Bridgeton, was heading east on Route 40 when he struck Allen Miller Jr., 45, near milepost 20.5 in Pittsgrove around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, New Jersey State Police said. Poore then fled the scene.
