Teenage Long Island Woman Nabbed For Committing Five Robberies In Eight Days, Police Say
A teenage armed robber who committed five robberies in eight days at several Long Island businesses has been apprehended, police said. Bay Shore resident Anahi Gomez, 18, was arrested by Suffolk County Police following an investigation into a string of robberies between Friday, Dec. 27 and Friday, Jan. 3 at five different businesses between Huntington Station and Lake Ronkonkoma. It is alleged that Gomez entered the businesses, displaying what appeared to be a handgun, then fled with an undisclosed amount of money. Pelicans Rescued In Montauk Could Soon Be On Their Way To Bask In Florida Sun
It has taken a village of volunteers to help two wayward pelicans survive after the duo failed to fly south and were stranded on Long Island. The two young brown pelicans currently are safely tucked in at the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Center in Hampton Bays, but both are a little worse for the wear after getting too cold when they were hanging out in Montauk near the fishing docks. Banded on July 19 in North Carolina, the two were spotted several weeks ago by fishermen and locals in Montauk who kept waiting for them to fly south, said Amanda Daley manager of the wildlife center. Police: 500 Fake Credit Cards Found Before Florida Fraudster Hits Newark
After finding 500 bogus credit and gift cards in his checked luggage, police at Orlando Airport called ahead to their Port Authority colleagues, who arrested a convicted con man as he got off a plane in Newark, authorities said. Robert Smith-Merced, 46, Kissimmee FL, "was unaware that the luggage holding the fraudulent cards was still being held by authorities in Orlando" when he got off the Delta flight around 10 a.m. Thursday, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo said.
