A man was killed after he was attacked by three pit bulls in Newark on Saturday, April 11, authorities said.
At 8:26 p.m., police responded to George King Village near Cabinet Street after a man intervened when he saw three dogs fighting, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.
The dogs, owned by someone the man knows, turned on him, Miranda said. The man escaped, but lost consciousness after being bitten, Miranda said. He was pronounced dead at 9:06 p.m. , Miranda said. The man has not been identified.

A 54-year-old Long Island man was charged for allegedly breeding and selling pit bulls for the purpose of dog fighting.
Lonnie Poindexter, of Freeport, was arraigned on Thursday, Aug. 4, on one felony count and two misdemeanor counts of prohibition of animal fighting, according to Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.
He pleaded not guilty and is set to appear in court on Thursday, Sept. 15, the DA's Office said.

A man who had more than two dozen tortured, malnourished, and injured dogs seized from his Reistertown home has been convicted on animal abuse, animal cruelty, and animal neglect charges, according to the State’s Attorney for Baltimore County.
Corey Elvin Hannah, 47, has been convicted of 17 abuse charges for allegedly mistreating the dogs at his Worthington Avenue home, State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger said, following a trial in the Baltimore County Circuit Court.
