House Explosion: Cause Revealed For Blast That Killed Man, Woman In Hurley
Days after a man and woman were killed in a house explosion in the Hudson Valley, investigators determined what caused the blast.
A “significant amount” of propane had leaked into a Brueckner Lane residence in the town of Hurley, causing a massive explosion at around noon Wednesday, March 19, New York State Police said.
The blast completely leveled the home, killing residents Ralph Brueckner, 75, and Cheryl Hathaway, 58, according to police.
Fire investigators deemed the incident “accidental in nature,” noting that the propane had built up over an extended period of time.

Woman Found Dead After Manheim Twp Explosion, Fire Identified: York Coroner
The woman found dead inside a burning vehicle following reports of a house explosion in Manheim Township has been identified, authorities announced on Friday, Feb. 28.
Ronda Meckley, 65, of Manheim Township, was discovered inside the vehicle near Hoffacker Road and Gabco Lane after firefighters extinguished the flames around midnight on Tuesday, Feb. 25, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.
Fire crews had initially been called at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, for reports of a house explosion but arrived to find only the burning vehicle.

Lackawanna County Man Is 2nd Victim Killed By Home Explosion: Coroner
A second victim has died from injuries following a home explosion in Lackawanna County, authorities said.
Leon W. Gruss, 91, of Jefferson Township, was pronounced dead on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 12:38 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio. The cause of death is 51% burns to the body due to the explosion and house fire, Buglio said.
The explosion occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at approximately 2:15 p.m. in the 1000 Block of Mount Cobb Road in Jefferson Township.

Woman Killed In Home Explosion On 95th Birthday Was North Jersey’s ‘Cookie Lady,’ Family Says
To many of those in North Jersey, Maria V. Mallozzi was “the cookie lady,” her family says.
That’s because, for 18 years, customers could count on seeing her cheerful smile behind the counter at Angelo’s Bakery in Newton, which her family owned until late 1996. In her younger years, she worked at and lived above an older family business, Vitiello’s Bakery in Newark, her obituary says.
