Two Men Rescued After Sailboat Capsizes In Great South Bay Near East Islip (Photo) Two men were pulled from the Great South Bay after their sailboat capsized south of East Islip Marina on Sunday, Aug. 17, Suffolk County Police said. The 19-foot sailboat overturned about a mile south of the marina at 5 p.m., according to a release from the department. One of the men called 911, prompting Marine Bureau officers aboard Marine Juliet to respond. Lt. Thomas Stanzoni, along with Officers Robert Reuter and Kevin Butler, located the pair. A 48-year-old man was found clinging to the mast in the water, while a 58-year-old man was sitting on the side of the capsized vessel, police …

At 11 a.m., the sailboat sunk in Townsend’s Inlet off the 8th Great Jetty, the Avalon Beach Patrol said. The sailboat engine broke down, causing the vessel to strike the jetty and sink, the beach patrol told NBC 10. Lifeguards ensured all 10 people made it back it safely, the beach patrol said. “Our Patrol prevented a disaster with quick thinking and a fast response,” the beach patrol said. No injuries were reported.

Sailboat In Distress, Missing Swimmer Both Saved Off Rye Coast On Same Day Police responded to two marine emergencies off the Westchester coast on the same evening.  The first call came in on Thursday evening, July 17, reporting a sailboat in distress off of Manursing Island, the City of Rye Police Department said on Friday, July 18.  Rye Bay Constables soon found the vessel and assisted a sailor in need of help. The boat was safely towed to Port Chester Harbor, where the sailor was evaluated by EMS and declined medical attention. 4 Rescued After Sailboat Overturns On Long Island Sound In Hempstead Bay Emergency responders from two counties teamed up to rescue several people after a sailboat overturned on the Long Island Sound. The incident happened around 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 Marine 7 of the Nassau County Police Department Marine Bureau Unit responded for reports of an overturned sailboat.  With the assistance of the Westchester Police Department, all four occupants were removed from the water and the sail boat was towed to shore by Town of North Hempstead Bay Constable.  The FDNY Marine Bureau was also at scene.  There were no injuries reported.
