A former US Army soldier based at Fort Belvoir has pleaded guilty to brutally shaking a 16-day-old infant, causing severe injuries that left her legally blind and permanently brain damaged, according to federal prosecutors.

Oliver Hernandez-Caballero, 26, of Damascus, was sentenced on Tuesday, April 1, to 25 years in prison with all but 14 years suspended after being convicted of first-degree child abuse, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
He will serve five years of supervised probation when he is released.
