On March 31, Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill into law that requires school districts to permit students to use FDA-approved sunscreen and sun-protective clothing at school and during school-sponsored activities, as long as parents provide written permission, according to a press release from the governor’s office. Emilio Hernandez, 54, of Bay Shore, was found guilty of robbery and related charges by a Suffolk County jury on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Hernandez was armed with a pistol when he entered a laundromat on the Sunrise Highway Service Road in Bay Shore donning a mask, hat, and sunglasses on April 11, 2023, according to prosecutors. On June 1, Warrington Police responded to Sunglass Hut for the report of a retail theft that just occurred.  Staff related a man later identified as Jonaycker DeGouveria-Suearez and a woman entered the store and proceeded to the expensive sunglass area.  DeGouveria-Suearez concealed them in a bag exited the store failing to pay for the concealed merchandise, police said. The man stole the sunglasses from Sunglass Hut in Deer Park at about 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, according to a report from Suffolk County Crime Stoppers on Thursday, July 21. The store is located at 152 The Arches Circle, authorities said.
