2-Alarm Fire Leaves Phillipsburg Home Uninhabitable: FD A two-alarm structure fire caused several collapses in Phillipsburg on Sunday, March 1, authorities said. At 10:34 a.m., firefighters, police and EMS units responded to 680 Metz St. and found a fire through the roof of a single story home, Fire Chief Richard Hay said.  An aggressive interior attack was initiated but was then switched to defensive operations as conditions rapidly deteriorated with several interior collapses with a second alarm being tolled, Hay said. John Dunford, the former mayor of Brewster and Southeast Town Supervisor, died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 30 in Danbury, Connecticut at the age of 80, according to his obituary. Dunford, a lifelong Brewster resident, was known for his decades of public service. He served as mayor of the Village of Brewster from 1977 to 1979 and later as Town of Southeast Supervisor from 2003 to 2007.
