Danbury Man Cashed Fake US Treasury Checks, Stole $80K: Feds An Ecuadorian man living in Connecticut could spend decades in prison after federal prosecutors say he deposited two fake US Treasury checks and moved $80,000. Edison Jovanny Duta Pindo, 43, of Danbury, was indicted by a federal grand jury in New Haven last year. Fundraiser Honors Navy Veteran, Longtime Ledyard Youth Football Coach ‘Smitty' A Navy veteran, Groton employee and longtime youth football coach has died, and his family is raising money for the league that meant so much to him.  Wendall Corey Smith, known as “Smitty,” died July 27. He was 56. His family did not disclose the cause of his death. Smith served 24 years in the US Navy’s submarine service before retiring. He later became a maintenance manager for the town of Groton, according to his obituary. Smith also spent about a decade coaching and announcing games for the Ledyard Youth Football League.
